Boot ESXI from USB stick

If you installed ESXI on your USB stick but you cannot boot from it, then probably the USB was formatted without MBR support.

In order to enable the Master Boot Record support for your USB stick you need to edit the boot options when the installer is loaded for the first time.

  1. Hit Shift+O when the installer is getting loaded. See below
    esxi-installer

  2. Add a space and the parameter formatwithmbr into the command line text that at the bottom left of the screen.
    Then it will look like this: runweasel formatwithmbr

  3. That’s it enjoy your esxi  🙂
